If you could go back in time and register one .TV domain, even if premium, what would it be, assuming you had to pay the then current price.

The link service at http://t.co is only used on links posted on Twitter and is not available as a general shortening service.

Appropriate.tv on auction at Sedo

I haven't yet gotten paid for appropriate.tv. I sent a query expressing my concern...not so much for the winning bidder, though. The winning bid was nominal and I understand the conditions that exist in today's financial climate.

I took the opportunity, however to express my sincere opinions regarding sedo's minimum 50.00 fee.

to wit:

"Hi

I was just wondering if this is a bonafide sedo client...I do not mind the wait but if it is much longer, I would like the opportunity to put the name back on the market.

I do realize that this is an unusual time in terms of the economy and the winning bidder may be waiting for the opportunity to pay the amount agreed upon.

It is a shame, however, that sedo decided to stiff their clients with a 50.00 up front fee for small winning bids(instead of once rational and fair 20%) as this shows a complete, inherent and utter disregard for the majority of their clients, but I guess that is the price one pays when you have them over a barrel.

Anyway, let me know the status of the name(appropriate.tv) as soon as possible.

Thank you and have a great day."

Juniper Networks Loses Case for Juniper.tv

This is a bit of a surprising result, but it favored the domain owner. I am a bit leary as the registrant owns regions.tv and has banking ads on their parked page.

Months after its release, the only iPad domain Apple owns is iPad.co

Doesn't this seem a bit strange? I am completely for alternative extensions and building them out, but .co? There were rumors that Apple had purchased Ipad.com, but apparently that doesn't seem to be the case. What do you think of this move?

MySpace Spends $25K on MySpace.Co, A Domain They Could Have Bought For $300

When reading stories like this, I wonder who sits behind the marketing area of these companies. The amount of waste and lack of financial analysis is just ridiculous. I am not sure even the .co can help MySpace at this point.

They still have a lot to learn when it comes to domain names.

A reader informed me that they were in the auction for MySpace.co and that the domain sold for $25,000.

The whois record now confirms that Twentieth Century Fox, which is owned by NewsCorp, which also owns MySpace.com, is the new owner of the domain.

Everyone buys tshirts all the time. I understand this point, but how many tshirts does one have to sell to generate an ROI. What business models would you explore if you acquired this domain for this price.

Let's try to understand this model for a second. The domain name was purchased for 750K and a year later sells for 510K. Take out a 10% commission and you are now at 459K net. That's pretty close to a 300K loss. How is this good for the prior owner? I would have rather than my chances on alternative extensions. It doesn't always pay to spend big dollars on domain names that you have no concrete plan on how to monetize.

Why doesn't SEDO report .TV sales?

Not too long ago SEDO released its Q2 2010 sales report showing 11,146 domain sales in the quarter. The report noted that 46% of domain sales were .COM and that figure (~5127 domains) represented 74% of GTLD sales (~6929 domains). This would mean CCTLD sales were ~4217 domains. Consequently one can also conclude based on the pie charts of percentage of GTLD or CCTLD sales the following domain sales figures (approximate)

BIZ 139
ES 169
FR 127
US 127
IN 84

We know that in April there were 115 premium .TV domains auctioned, almost all of which sold. Simultaneously there was an NP .TV auction of another ~45 domains which received bids. Since the April frenzy there have been periodic sales so the total number of .TV sales in Q2 should not only have rivaled but exceeded the TLDs mentioned above. Clearly .TV sales are nowhere near .Net sales & are likely still less than .Info sales (~346 in Q2) but why no mention at all in the Q2 report?
